Prof. Dr. Sutay Yavuz, faculty member of the Department of Sociology at Ankara Social Sciences University, shared his insights on the newly released Socioeconomic Status (SES) Index by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) in an interview with BBC Turkish.
The nationwide study, covering more than 26 million households, assesses social and economic status based on income level, average years of education, and occupational data. Prof. Dr. Yavuz emphasized that regions with high SES scores—such as Istanbul, Ankara, Bursa, Izmir, and Antalya—are largely aligned with centers of industry and public administration.
