As the Department of Sociology, we continue to offer training programs focused on data literacy and contemporary analysis techniques in line with the demands of the digital age. Our four-week training program titled "Data, Data Structures, Database, and PowerBI" is currently in its second week, drawing strong interest from students.
The training is delivered by Hakan Türkoğlu, a data specialist working at the Department of Management Information Systems and Statistics Coordination of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB).
During the first week, participants explored the basic structure and types of data, along with introductory concepts for data analysis. In the second week, a hands-on session was held on how to create and manage databases using PostgreSQL, an open-source database management system.
In the coming weeks, participants will work with datasets—either collected from the field or obtained from open sources—and perform data visualization and analysis using PowerBI. The training aims to equip our students with increasingly sought-after digital competencies applicable in both the public and private sectors.
We believe that such initiatives will significantly contribute to strengthening our students’ skills in critical thinking, quantitative research, and analytical reasoning, enhancing the sociological power of analysis in the age of data.
