The Sociology Department at the Social Sciences University of Ankara (ASBU) is proud to announce the international publication of Hamide Elif Üzümcü. Her article, titled “The sociological and literary legacy of Yaşar Kemal in the study of childhood,” is now available as an open-access paper in the Scopus-indexed journal Global Studies of Childhood.

Supported by the University of Edinburgh (IASH and Alwaleed Centre), the research demonstrates how Yaşar Kemal’s 1970s field studies preceded the Western "new sociology of childhood" wave. The article highlights Kemal’s recognition of children’s agency and his unique “sociological fiction” method as an innovative contribution to the field.
