As the Department of Sociology within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Social Sciences University of Ankara (ASBÜ), we are pleased to announce that Asst. Prof. Hamide Elif Üzümcü has joined our department.

Dr. Üzümcü received her PhD cum Laude (with Honours) from the University of Padua in Italy in 2021. Her doctoral research on "children’s intrafamilial privacy," based on long-term ethnographic fieldwork in Türkiye, was awarded the Turkish Social Sciences Association’s Young Social Scientist Prize in 2023.

Prior to joining ASBÜ, she conducted research on family relationships and Sufi storytelling traditions in the UK as an IASH–Alwaleed Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh. She has also served as a visiting researcher at prominent institutions, including the University of Sussex, University of Edinburgh, and Trinity College Dublin.

Dr. Üzümcü, who serves on the board of the International Sociological Association (ISA) RC53 Sociology of Childhood as Communications Manager and is a member of the editorial board of the journal Children & Society, will continue her academic work in our department with a focus on the sociology of childhood and family, as well as qualitative research methods.
