On December 27, 2024, we hosted Dr. Hamide Elif Üzümcü at the Sezai Karakoç Conference Hall for our seminar. 🎓 She delivered a talk titled "Children's Negotiations of Privacy Within the Family: A Relational Perspective in Childhood Sociology", offering a sociological analysis of childhood and family relationships.

🎓 Inspiring Presentations by Our Department Students 🎓
On Tuesday, December 24, 2024, the "Sociology Research Project Seminars" were held at the Oval Office of the Sümerbank Building, organized under the leadership of our faculty member, Prof. Dr. Şebnem Köşer Akçapar. During this seminar, students participating in the “Research Project in Sociology” course successfully presented the projects they worked on throughout the year. 👏

At the symposium titled "Strengthening Families and Dynamic Population Structure," organized by the United Nations Population Fund (Turkey) and the Ministry of Family and Social Services with the participation of Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, Prof. Dr. Sutay Yavuz served as a panelist.
In the panel session on "Policies, Legislative Changes, and Practices Needed to Strengthen Families and Increase Birth Rates," Prof. Dr. Sutay Yavuz delivered a presentation titled "Strengthening Families and Supporting Fertility Within the Framework of Sustainable Development Goals."
The Sociology Seminar (Fall 2024 Semester) Student Presentations will take place on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, between 10:00 AM and 2:30 PM in the Oval Office of the Sümerbank Building.
As part of the seminar, students from our department who are part of the study group formed under the “Research Project in Sociology” course led by our faculty member, Prof. Dr. Şebnem Köşer Akçapar, will present their work.
Our department participated in the 6th International Resilience Congress, organized by the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (TBB). Prof. Dr. Sutay Yavuz and research assistant Ozan Çetiner presented their study titled "Resilience Perception of Individuals in Türkiye: A Study Based on World Risk Poll Data". The presentation provided an in-depth analysis of resilience perceptions using data from the World Risk Poll.
The Contemporary Debates in the Sociology of Crime-III, organized by the Crime and Security Research Association, will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 8:00 PM via Zoom. This session will focus on the critical issue of Violence Against Women and Femicide.
Our Department Chair, Prof. Dr. Sutay Yavuz, chaired the session titled "Access to Services for Vulnerable Groups in the Face of Crises" at the 9. International Conference on Urban Studies (ICUS 2024), held on November 20-22, 2024.
The study titled "2023 Research on Turks Living in Europe: The Border Gate Example," conducted by the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), has been published as a comprehensive examination of the ties between Turkish citizens living in the diaspora and Turkey. The study was scientifically supervised by Prof. Dr. Sutay Yavuz, Head of the Sociology Department at Ankara Social Sciences University.
